The Reps Nobody Sees
There's a moment in the gym I've come to respect more than the finish. It's the moment right before the last rep; when your form is shaky, nobody's counting, and you could quietly stop and no one would ever know the difference.
That rep is where the growth actually lives.
I was sitting in my gym thinking about that, surrounded by weight I've lifted a hundred times, and something clicked. I know exactly what it takes to build a body. Show up. Do the work. Trust the process even when the mirror is slow to agree. And God has been showing me that He's building something in me the same patient way….one rep at a time.
Paul said it to Timothy without softening it: "train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come" (1 Timothy 4:8). Notice he doesn't dismiss the physical. It has some value. But he draws a line, one kind of training pays out in this life only. The other pays out in both.
And then Hebrews tells us how that second kind of training actually works:
"But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil." (Hebrews 5:14)
Trained. By constant practice.
I love that God tells us the mechanism. He doesn't leave maturity mysterious, like it lands on a chosen few and skips the rest of us. He tells us plainly: it's trained. Which means it's available. Which means anyone willing to keep showing up can have it.
And here's the encouraging part; if discernment is trained, then every ordinary day you've been faithful is counting for something. That morning you opened the Word and didn't feel a thing? Rep. That prayer that didn't get answered on your timeline and you kept praying anyway? Rep. That small correction you obeyed when nobody would've known if you hadn't? Rep. None of it was wasted. You were building capacity you couldn't see yet.
Because that's what discernment is for, not the obvious decisions, but the ones where both doors look good. Where the opportunity is genuinely nice but it isn't yours. Where the pace everybody's keeping is quietly costing you something. Solid food is for the mature, which means there's a depth of truth God wants to hand you, and He's building the capacity in you to hold it.
So keep training. What to do. What to take in. Where to go. How to pray. Every one of those is a rep, and the God who started this work is faithful to finish it.
That's the flare in these Olive Statement Dangle Earrings, look close and you'll see they aren't one big piece. They're a dozen small ones, layered and linked, each catching the light in its own way. No single petal is the statement. Together, they're unmistakable. That's exactly what reps look like. One on its own barely registers. Stacked up over time, they become something you can't miss.
Don't discount the reps nobody sees. Those are the ones building you.
That's your flare. Beautifully. Unique. Made on purpose.
